I had the enormous honour of being invited to BBC Maida Vale studios the other week to witness BBC Radiophonic Workshop legends Roger Limb, Glynis Jones, Peter Howell, and Paddy Kingsland performing together, including a spine tingling rendition of the Doctor Who theme in very place it was first recorded and arranged by Delia Derbyshire.

This was to be the very last BBC event held at the studios, the home of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop since 1958, before it closes and is handed over to its new owners, a partnership between film producers Tim Bevan & Eric Fellner, and composer Hans Zimmer.

It really was the end of an era for the BBC building. But it was also the closing of a chapter for me too. You see, Maida Vale Studios holds a special place in my heart because it’s where it all began in terms of my love affair with recording studios…
